Weigh-In: Week 5

Current Weight: 230lbs
Weekly Loss: -3lbs   Total Loss: -11lbs
I swear, I thought I was going to have to post my first "gain" weigh-in of this go around.  I have no idea how I managed to lose 3 pounds this week!
I took a picture because I didn't believe it!

I had a rough eating week.  Started off being ravenous while PMSing, just eating whatever was around and lots of it!  Luckily, I don't have anything in my house that's really horrible, but even healthy foods aren't good in copious amounts.  I ate A LOT.
This is my HANGRY face.  You don't want to be around my HANGRY face!!!!
I also went to visit my BFF/Soulmate this weekend, and I'm one of those people who loves to eat while driving, and I had a good 7 hour trip.  I put together a bag of healthy stuff, but also managed to consume a bag of Smartfood popcorn on my way down due to stress eating (major car issues!).  My friend is awesome, though, and made delicious food that was on the healthy side for us!  On the way back, stress eating resumed with pretzels and a bag of sour patch kids.  I didn't even want to get on the scale today.  So, yeah, I lost 3lbs  but I almost don't like that I lost weight, because it wasn't a great week.

I'm up to 37.5 miles for April.  Still have a few days to reach my 40 mile goal, I know I'll get there!  I'm also hoping this weight loss sticks, because I really wanted to be out of the 230's by May.  We'll see what happens next week!!!

Weekly Weigh In and Chicago

This week, I maintained my weight.  I am guessing that I did lose a little before I went away and then put some on.  My body feels bloated still from eating more salt/fat/sugar than I normally do on a regular basis.  I'm calling this week my detox week!

I spent 3 days in Chicago for a mini-vacation with my best friend.  She was there working, so I was on my own for the most part.  I had a great time!  The weather was beautiful, so I spent most of my days walking around.  The first day I forgot to track my miles, but I used my free Endomondo app the rest of the time (a really great app if you want to track any sort of outside activity!).  It tracks how far, how long, average speed, and more!  Here are a few examples of the feedback from the app:
I walked over 30 miles while i was there!  My legs are exhausted, but I'm proud of myself!  There were a few times when I really wanted to hop on a bus or in a cab, but I didn't!!!

I'm not going to lie, I ate a bunch of stuff that isn't on the weight-loss wagon, but that's part of travel for me.  I did discover some delicious, healthy meals along the way!
Crepes filled with spinach and mushrooms at the farmers market (above)
Grilled fish tacos at Howells & Hood (below)
The rest of my meals weren't horrible, health-wise (except the deep dish pizza- which, in retrospect, I shouldn't have eaten- I was so disappointed in the taste!  I'll stick to NY style pizza, thank you!), but they weren't healthy, either.
I'm glad to be home, back in my routine and my kitchen!

The Fast-Food Conundrum

Normally, I tend to avoid fast-food chains since they are usually filled with high fat, high sodium, high carbohydrate foods that I'm trying to avoid.  Yet, while away, I found myself sticking mainly to these same eateries.

Why?

They have nutritional information available.  They give you everything you need to know in order to make a better choice.  You can take a few minutes before you go out to get a meal and check out the stats of whatever you are thinking of ordering online.  Subway might not have a fantastic turkey sandwich, but I can better estimate what I'm about to eat than if I went to a deli.  The same with breakfast.  Dunkin Donuts has a lot of horrible choices, but they also have some not so bad ones in there (my favorite is the Bacon, Egg and Cheese Wake- Up Wrap checking in at 5 Points+).  And, of course, there's my beloved Panera, which can be just as unhealthy if you're not careful.  The thai chopped chicken salad made another appearance, and was just as delicious!

So, my mentality about fast-food has changed.  It's no longer something to steer clear of, but it's something to rely on in a pinch, so long as one remembers to order the right things!

Eating while Away

So far, so good!

Yesterday, I grabbed a chicken wrap for lunch along the way, and had a grilled chicken burrito for dinner.

Today started off with a trusted TJ's fig bar (3 Points+).  Then I went to the gym, and conference goodness followed.  For lunch I went to Subway since I know it's a dependable food source.  I got a 6" Turkey sub with lettuce, pickles and some mustard on wheat bread for 7 Points+.  I also stopped by 7-11 and grabbed a very large, very good fruit mix of apples, grapes, mangoes, strawberries and cantaloupe.  WOOHOO fruit being 0 Points+.  I'm keeping that on ice since it will last me a while, that way I have something to pick at when I'm a little hungry.

That leaves me with a whopping 21 Points+ to enjoy the rest of my day, plus I still have 42 weekly Points+ to use if I need.  Hooray!!!!  I would rather play it very safe on breakfast and lunch so that I can order something I really want for dinner.

Tomorrow I'm heading to Miss Shirley's Cafe for breakfast.  I really want the pumpkin cheesecake french toast, but that's out of the questions!!!  I think I'm going to treat myself to the shrimp and grits- sounds delicious and not the worst thing on the menu!  It shall be a true test of will power!  For lunch, I want to head over to the Lexington Market.  I'm craving some crabcakes, and Faidley's is supposed to have some of the best our there!  I love big markets, so many choices make it easier to find food you want to eat that won't kill your healthy eating habits!

Baltimore Bound!

Heading into Baltimore today for a music conference!  Today's a busy travel day, so I don't have time for a large update.  Starting the day off with my yogurt and packing many fig bars so that at any point throughout the next few days, if I'm a little hungry, I have a guilt-free snack right there!

Interesting fact- Baltimore has very few Weight Watchers centers.  I may not be able to weigh-in until next week!  I'm still going to attempt to find some place I can get to, but if not, you and I will all have to wait in suspense until next week!
